New Geforce FX5700LE Problems. Help! :(

I ordered the Chaintech GeForce FX5700LE to replace my older GeForce 2 MX-400. Once received, i removed the old card and replaced it with the new card. the computer booted fine to windows XP. There was only one problem, everything was all screwed up. The entire screen looked as if there was a particle explosion. everytime i moved the mouse, the colors would move around and what have you. it looked like win95 on drugs. so i rebooted. same thing. i then tried to install the drivers. everything installed fine untill the end, it went to a black screen like red and blue lines in random places. i removed the card and put back in the old card. i then kicked my self in the *** because i did not change anything in BIOS. so i changed everything from PCI to AGP and so on and so fourth and then put back in the new card. but it didn't matter, i got the same thing, everything was still screwed up this time. i couldn't see a thing just blobs of little explosions.

im running an AMD XP 1800 on a ASUS A7M266 mobo.

also, i read somewhere that:

"sideband allocation (SBA) is a feature on newer graphics cards, and my a7m266 is now considered "outdated." the AMD 761 chipset doesnt like SBA on this card (and presumably all FX models, or even all SBA enabled cards), and causes terrible random 3D errors all over the place"

the solution this person found has something to do with the registry. it was:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\System
create a new DWORD called "EnableAGPSBA" and set its value to "0"

i looked through my reg and had everything up to "Global" but no system could be found. so i was unable to do this. im not sure if its just older drivers or what. im not sure if this will help me at all, but if anyone knows let me in on it please help if you can!! thanks in advance!

Number one cause is a bent pin on your monitor connector
Its possible you bent a pin when you disconnected it
If it is a bent pin use caution trying to straighten it out they break easily
Also be sure that the monitor is securely screwed into the graphics card

Oh and when straightening a bent pin be sure to unplug the monitor.

Not uninstalling previous drivers can cause this as well

the thing is my older card works just fine. if it were a bent pin, it would look the same with that card too right? and i also uninstalled the old drivers before installing the new card. after installing the new drivers for the freshly installed card the system stalled.

Do you have your old card back in and it's working?
You know what pins i'm talikng about right, On the end of your monitor cable that connects to the graphics card
Unhooking your monitor and turning the connector around and looking at it like below.

[o] :::::::::: [o]

Pins

I realize you don't have the card in right now but some things to try when you get the urge to go at it again
I see you downloaded the sideband allocation (SBA) reg file from the site
Doubleclicking that will enter the Registry fix into your system
The fact that you were only able to get as far as global in the registry makes me wonder if the drivers were installed correctly
Did you tried running DXDIAG
Start Run and enter DXDIAG
The thing to check here is Direct X files and make sure there are no problems
You can get the Card Name, Driver Version on the display tab and make sure it says no problems at the bottom of this screen as well
Also does changing resolution and Color quality have the same results

heres the recap etc etc whats been going on.. i just copy and pasted from somewhere else cause i didn't feel like typing it again. but the card is working.. but not totally.. games do not run properly. they are all f**ked up

i have the newest Chipset drivers installed, and everything is set in BIOS correctly. i finally got it working (somewhat) i disabled AGPFastWrite in BIOS and windows is running fine now. but games will NOT i get all sorts of distorted images and other stuff. its total crap. heres what i have posted on other forums and kinda updated info on my situation.

"after card was first installed, windows booted and video was completely messed up. it looked as if i were able to paint on the screen. when installing drivers, the system would go to a black screen and stall. i then disabled AGP Fast Write in BIOS and windows booted fine with no problem at all and video was good. soon i tried to play a game. the video proved to be worse then what i had seen before(flashing screen, dancing words, no video, triangles flying all over the place, etc). everygame i have tried does this, some of them do not run at all but i hear sound, IE: Doom3. i have installed the latest Chipset/AGP drivers. i have installed at the moment the Nvidia 56.72 drivers (i believe, not sure. at first i had the newest drivers installed and thought i should try the change. but that did nothing. i also went to see if it was directX but no problems were found and everything ran fine."

i cleaned out the AGP slot before installing (since i have never used it). i also instsalled the card in another computer and it works just fine with no problems. then i tried a different AGP card in my slot to see if that was the problem, but it worked just fine. so now i know my AGP slot is fine. then i tried disconnecting power from one HD and one CD_R drive just incase it was my PSU. but it wasn't the card still ran the same. so now im stuck and have NO IDEA

Sorry to hear about your probs. I'm having similar issues with a GFX5700LE video card and an Abit BE6-II motherboard. I've updated the BIOS, but still no joy. Boot up POST test gives one long beep followed by two short beeps, i.e., video failure. Get the exact same issue when it's inserted in another identical motherboard.

Upgrading the BIOS on another BE6-II motherboard resolved an issue where I couldn't install the drivers for an FX5600 video card, but nothing gives with the FX5700.

Let me know if you find a fix.

Cheers, Paul
