Question Hard Disc detection problem

I had an old Pentium- I MMX machine with a 2 GB hard disc. I recently purchased a new P-IV 2.8 GhZ. I wanted to use my old 2 GB hard disc into the new machine to facilitate copying of data to new hard disc. The 2 GB HDD was working without any trouble till I removed it from the old machine. But my new machine failed to detect the old hard disc. Till then I tried to install this disc into various other machines including old P1 machines, but none of them is able to detect the hard disc. I am in a fix. Can anyone help me?

As a last resort-
turn on the power, tap the drive on the side with a screwdriver or some other light weight object.
If the motor is only stuck, this will jar it enough to spin up.

Other then that, there are recovery services

assuming you did not give it a static shock when you removed it, or durring the handling of it there after.
have you set the jumpers correctly as to how it will be connected with the other machines it was tried on. if the new machine has 1 hard disk the jumper maybe set on cable select or (standalone)master. or may need to be set as a master with a non ata slave. the 2 gb hd you have should be set to slave, and read the jumper info on the top of the drive in the computer, or look up the drive on the net to see the correct jumper setting.

If you already didn't give it a static shock, DO NOT tap the drive with the screwdriver, at least not with the metal part. That will give it more static shock and render it useless. There is a device you can buy at a hardware store that can measure the power of any computer part when it is plugged in and turned on. Look for that because it is an essential part of a computer builders arsenal. If it can't detect any power from the drive, then you have to take it in for repairs or buy a new one.

Good luck!
