Floppy Drive

I am having a problem with my floopy drive. Everytime I put a disk in it says that the disk isn't formatted and it wants to format it. I know the disk I put in there have info on them and therefore are formatted but the drive doesn't seem to want to recognize this. I just reloaded xp on and this should work. I used the drive to fdisk and load windows on and once xp it won't read the floppy's. I even put the boot disk in and it won't read it. Can anyone please help me with this.

what type of processor and motherboard r u using? AMD/and socket A wasnt compatiable with a disk drive my freind had.
