Problem Installing Ram

hey, im new to the forum, got a problem:

i recently bought an exra 256mb SIMM (DDR Ram) to put in my comp. Ive already got two of them, and cant yet afford a big upgrade of ram, so thought id just slap another 256mb in. BUt when i install it and turn the computer on, it stops at bios, just before (probably during) the memory check.

my mobo (gigabyte k8ns pro) supports up to 3 GIG with three simms, and the ram isnt all the same manufacturer but are all DDR.

before the upgrade i had 1 samsung and one hynix, and that worked fine. the new simm is also hynix.

do you think this is a compatibilty problem between the ram? i read some Types (usually cheap brands) wont even work together... any help would be appreciated

Take one of the known good RAM modules out and replace it with the new stick. If the computer still won't boot with one known good and the new module, the new RAM is either defective or not the right type.
