Here is my comp crash msg. what to do?

I was playing a game (everquest) when I finished I got an error massage, I just made a log to look at it later. I was in a hurry To get out the door and went to shut the computer down. I could not shut the computer down through the start window so I shut it down from the back. A few hours later I turned it back on and it boots to a screen that says there was a problem and gives some chooses: Safe mode, Safe mode with networking, last known working configuration, and normal. No mater what I choose it will only go to a blue screen that says:

“A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Unmountable_boot_volume

If this is your first time seen stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new insulation, ask your hardware of software manufacture for any windows updates you might need.

If problem continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software, disable BIOS memory options such as chaching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options and then select safe mode.

Technical information
*** Stop: 0x000000 ED (0x86371900, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)”

I was going to try to format the hard drive and restore back the factory settings but I could not get to DOS. And even if I did I don’t have a XP boot disk. So I tried to get to DOS with a 98 boot disk. Got to DOS and did a scandisk and it came up with no errors. I then tried to format the hard drive but it would not let me. So I am stuck here what do I do.

First of all.... XP does NOT have dos. Unfortunately, although MS will say otherwise, XP is NOT gamer friendly due to the fact that they want to sell the Xbox. The first thing you should do is to make sure that you update EVERYTHING. Hardware drivers, software updates, game patches, bios updates and MS updates.
I had the same problem due to a web cam driver. I stronglyy suggest getting another hard drive and dual boot with 98 or 98 se for your games and leave the XP boot for what it is and what it's designed for. Business and online. I would also suggest visiting the xp newsgroups. If you have them thru outlook express, look under the topic *XP*. If not, search Google. Usenet or the newsgroups are a GREAT source of answers and information. Ignore the jerks. They have a sad life sitting around saying how wonderful XP is and how stupid you are and what a lousy machine you have because they have no life other than that. BTW- telling us what your computer is, the CPU, Ram, what video, sound and other features, would help isolate the problem.
