Athlon 3200 400 FSB Barton core CPU?

I purchased an Athlon 3200 400 FSB Barton core CPU on eBay by mistake, my motherboard is 333 FSB and will support a Barton core to 3200, will the 400 CPU work in a 333 motherboard?

it will run on your board, but it will not show 2.20 gig unless your motherboard supports overclocking and you have atleast pc3200 ram. if you have 2700 and clock it up to 400mhz on the fsb it will probably work but will eventually burn out the ram. alot of motherboards built for 333 mhz fsb have bios updates that allow 400 mhz fsb.....you will still need pc3200 or above though.

OK.....so if I use 2700 ram and don't overclock the m/b to 400 FSB? the ram won't burn out, it will just run at a slower speed , is that correct?

correct. i am not sure what bus speed the motherboard will default to with your setup, i think you can run a 333, but not sure. i dont know if you have a motherboard jumper, or if there is a setting in the bios, or if it is all auto................

if the K7nCR18G(Pro) listed in your signature is the board you will be using, there are bios updates for sempron 400 mhz cpu, it will add the 400 mhz to your board, even if you use the pc 2700 the bios update resolves other cpu detection problems too.

Actually the board I am going to install it in is an Albatron KX18D pro. Sorry I neglected to mention that. Cheers Bob.

I have added both sites to my favourites, I intend installing 3200's in both boards then sell them and buy an Athlon 64 bit setup....Thanx for your help, much appreciated.
