Hp 6200c Scanner

I have a hp 6200C scanner. At the beginning, it worked fine. But after around 2 years, problems started to come up. At first, it did not response quickly or stopped in the middle of the scanning. But after around 5 minutes, it would response or continue to scan. The condition is getting worse and now it is completely not working and the error message is "The scanner cannot be initialized". I have tried to get help from HP and follow their suggestion to install the latest driver, but finally it is still not working. I have also tried to search the web and some information said that this problem is common in this scanner. Could someone please give me some suggestion if you have come across this problem? (I have an automative paper feeder with this scanner. Dumping it seems to be not the right action.)

faulty cables for usb, serial or parallel ports can cause problems, several other things can too, like windows updates, anti virus updates, other hardware or software being added. have you tried the scanner on a different computer to see if you have the same results? if it works fine on a different computer, what is different about them...?

Thanks for your information.
I have tried using different usb cables, usb port. I have done windows update and anti-virus update. I have tried it on different computer systems - the old one is P3 with windows 98 and the new one is P4 with windows xp. The results are just the same - not working.

I had a HP scanner. Lasted till just after the warranty was off. Luckily, the store let me upgrade to an Epson. Signed ... not a HP fan.

It stopped working for me when I installed Windows 98. 6200 solution was ma
iled to me from HP 6 months latter. Its no longer a supported scanner and i
t only works with Windows 95 B with USB support, which is what I had before
upgrading to 98 and the scanner worked fine. I did a test, installed 95 on
a second drive turning off my primary 98 drive in the bios. Installed the
scanner on the 95 drive and it works fine now. So this test proved to me t
hat HP was correct , it only worked in 95. They suggested doing a dual boot
config to use my scanner. ITs easy to do in 2000 but no so easy in 98.

My scenario is basiclly the same. Worked fine to okay on P3 Windows 98 and ME. Since getting new P4 it has been nothing but trouble. I download new drivers it works for awhile, then quits. over and over. any fixes yet?
