System Standby

Hi when i put my compac 6000 on standby mode it only stays on for 2 minutes then restarts itself and when i leave the screen saver option on it goes into screensaver then it is supose to go to standby after 20minutes but it doesnt so from start- shut down- standby works for 2 minutes then starts again.

i am running xp and i am on high speed cable.

any help will be great
