DOes anyone have an ABIT AV8 and dual HDDs? SATA Question...

I'm trying to add a standard HDD to a system with a SATA drive as the main boot device (C:\)... my problem is that when I connect the standard HDD, the PC must be trying to boot from it, bwecause I jjust fail on boot with a "Boot Drive Failure" message.

I've tried going into the BIOS for the ABIT AV8, and changing the boot priority to:

1st: Floppy
2nd: CD ROM
3rd: NONE (this USED to say "Hard Drive", but since my "Add in card" controller was listed even above the 1ts Priority Floppy drive I figued that disdabling boot from Hard Drive would do the trick. Alas, it did not.

If anyone uses this mobo and has this configuration working PLEASE let me know, OK? I've gotten lots of helpful tips like "Set the SATA/RAID device higher in the boot priority than the IDE HDD", but I cannot see exactly how to accomplish this in the AV8 BIOS.

Thanks!!

I also use a Abit AV8 with ONE ATA Hard Drive and ONE SATA hard drive.
Not sure if your config is the same but the way I got it set up is:

ATA is boot drive (c so BIOS is set up 1) floppy, 2) CDROM, 3) HARD DRIVE

If you want to use the SATA as boot you must choose 3) SCSI

Not sure about the last phrase but that is the way it worked on my other Abit boards

Yeah, OK, I see what you mean... I disabled the 3rd boot option, but it still tried reading the IDE drive for some reason when it was plugged in, even with boot option #3 set to "Disabled". I'll try setting the SCSI device as the 3rd boot option and see if that does the trick. Thank you!!

Depending on how long it takes for your motherboard to check for floppies and CD's, you can shave a couple of seconds off of boot times by setting the first boot device to either you hard drive (if your using IDE), or the SCSI option (if you are using SATA). Then, if you happen to need to boot from your floppy or CD, just boot back into BIOS and change it.

I'll keep that in mind. I boot pretty fast as it is, though. Thanks, again!!
