I recently bought a twin fan unit which screws onto the hard drive and is supposed to keep it cool and prolong its life. I followed the instructions on the packaging and screwed the four supplied screws into the drive casing securely attaching the fan unit to the underside of the hard drive. I plugged the molex type 'through' connector from the fan unit into the hard drive and then plugged the power supply molex into it. I replaced the hard drive (Maxtor 120G Diamond Max) back into the PC chassis and now I cannot detect the hard drive. No other changes were made (except for slight modification of the case chassis to fit the now slightly bigger unit back in), and I cannot see it any more in the disk management console (says error, not detected) or in the BIOS. I've removed the fan unit but still no detection. The dual fan unit uses 1 watt of power (I don't know if this is relevent) other than a power surge or malfuntion of some sort I cannot imagine what has caused this. It was a slave drive that has worked fine up till now (slave on primary IDE cannel), it was one of three drives in my system (two on the Pri IDE and one on an IDE ATA PCI card). I've tried it with different cables etc etc but still nothing. I'm gutted, there I was trying to extend the life of my hard drive and I end up killing it somehow - can anyone help or at least provide some sort of explanation?
