audio and modem will not work/ new hard drive

i am currently helping someone repair their computer. they have a sony vaio desktop, it's about a year old, i don't know the model number off the top of my head. their hard drive was completely fried, so i replaced it and went through the usual process, then installed WinXP. all of the programs i installed worked fine, and the system recognizes the usb drivers, but windows will not pick up on the dial-up modem being used on the system, and it will not recognize the audio card. the only systems i have ever replaced hard drives or other hardware on were systems i built myself, and i know that after i did so, i had to run software for the motherboard, video card, etc. is this the same for store-bought computers? will the audio card or modem work without some kind of software? if not, is there any way that i can contact sony and get a disc for the hardware? apparently the chain store that set up his computer failed to give him this disc, if it came with one. thanks in advance for answering the numerous questions here.

i'm guessing you have tried to put that audio and modem in your own pc and test if it's working or not.

if the parts work over on your system.

then the mobo probably got fried with it.

but have you installed the current drivers for the modem and the audio?

well that's what i was asking, if there is some kind of installation disc that was supposed to come with the computer that takes care of the drivers.

i did not try the audio and modem on my system. i honestly think it's something with getting those drivers properly installed, being that everything else worked fine. i just need to know how to properly install these drivers on the system, via disc or some other process, and see if that is definitely the problem. if you have any suggestions on this, please send them my way, and thank you for responding.

in order to find the correct drivers you will need to find out the brand names of those hardware.

go to their websites

look to see if you can dl any drivers from their website

^ yeah that seems pretty logical, thanks for the suggestion.

i'll look on the sony site to see if they talk about what kind of mobo they typically put in their systems, then go from there. this guy lives about an hour from my house, so i'm trying to save myself unnecessary driving. thanks again.

The dell I bought, since I didn't have money up front to build the comp came with several driver disks, and some other applications. They should have an installation disk, some where. Hope that helps
