WXP/SP 2 Compaq laptop
I really don't even know where to start....
I sludged through all the external hard drive choices at the local BB, closed my eyes and picked one. Maxtor 40 GB USB 1.1 & 2.0 3000 LS 100 bucks. Plugged it in and was told my USB is the slow one, no problem, I can wait. Set it up to do a backup. The first time it took 12 hours so I figured it was backing up the entire system. The last time I did it, it took about 30 minutes. OK, so I’m set to reinstall my OS.
Plug in the drive and start looking around and can’t find the backup I had titled Backup 1-22-05 or whatever I named it at the time, can’t find any of the previous backups either. Just a bunch of nothing really. Some websites, a few documents, one picture, yep, that’s right ONE. When I open up My Pictures there’s just the ones that come with the OS. There are folders that say MyBackup.003 but when I click on it, I have to ‘choose a program’ to open it and I DIDN’T DO ANY BACKUPS IN 2003, I didn’t even have the drive back then.
I had PowerQuest Drive Image installed when I did the backups but I didn’t use it, I just followed the prompts in the external drive. Would it have used PowerQuest? Should I be looking in there too?
So, if anyone can tell me how to find the backup I did a couple of weeks ago, I would be forever grateful. It has to be on there, right?
And just one more thing, I AM DETERMINED TO LEARN how to do a backup this time. I will not go through this again. There are so many ways to do backups that I’ve always given up. Not this time. Is there one of those
Backups for Dummies books for this?
TIA
Anna
PS after reinstalling my WXP/Home OS I installed the SP 2, if that makes any difference
