Drive Install

I would like to replace my current hard drive (40GB, 5400) with a new hard drive (60GB, 7200). My system came installed with Windows XP (Home). I do not have any recovery CD's, but this information is on my installed hard drive, which I want on my new drive, just in case... My current drive has two partitions: FAT32, 5GB for the Recovery data, and NTFS for all other data. Can some one tell me the best way to install this new drive as the master or lead me to a good source for help. I currently have the new drive installed as a slave, but would really like it to be the master. My concern is how XP will act when I copy my current drive to the new drive and then try start it up. Is there anyone out there who as done want I want to do.

Thanks for any help and Happy New Year.

Bob

it depends on how you intend to copy the drive. I have seen a drive that comes with a drive copy disk by the hard drive manufacturer i think it was maxtor?? anyways I tried that and it didnt work for me . It seems to have copied all the files correctly but when logging on it halts right before the log on window is going to pop up.. You cant directly copy all the files being dumb i tried that and one of the files was in use or whatever. So i tried by putting the old drive and the destination drive in a nother computer so none of the drives were the boot drive and that does not work either. I guess maybe just try and find a program that will do a drive copy. my best guess
