Video card problem??

I recently tried to install from cd, Soldier of Fortune II. However, I would get an error message stating that video system is not "opengl compliant". Is this saying my video card is not up to snuff? Is this a matter of updating the drivers for my video card or must I purchase a new video card that is OpenGL compliant? My OS is WindowsXP Pro.
