Mate, did you even read my post? I tried three different mics, if none of them works on the ac97 card but on several other computers, my guess is its software/drivers for the device which is messed up, question is just how to solve it ><

AS Rock K7s41gx and Cmedia 9739A Codec.
Thanks to all
(Except the bugger that says “thanks I fixed it, bye, see you ‘round),
Your tread is the best I found on the issue. I have no solution for now but kicking hard. I read all your advices and here is the result.
- env. MBoard (above.
- Win2K US, All service packed and this and that ...
- £D Audio Engine: Xear3D CRL3D DS3D EAX2.0 A3D1.0
- Codec (above)
- Audio driver 5.12.01.0039.3 (36) (I just updated on CM web site - brand new, still Work In Progress... no feed back or FAQ... ) . Watch out, the “diskver211.apart…” file to download, it is a corrupted tar file !!! (that’s it those guys are probably at soldering chipsets, when it comes to software it’s havoc)
- Controller SIS 7012
- DX 9.0b (in fact it is a 9.0c) but C-Media config is buggy and barely reads tty... and by the way for thos that get no audio : beware their sw turn off the mic without warning!!!! (Check in the Mixer the configuration of the mic and see that the first box is clear …)
- a neat registry (all keys checked and crap dumped).
I tried 3 different mic . cheap one, headset (better quality, voice recognition type), much better (logitech high end headset).
The recording is rubbish, I get a decent result if I swallow the mic!
My solution : disable the chipset and place a bulk audio card from your nearest reseller ! I fear that unless we’re all missing something in the configuration (I doubt) we’ll be retired before the manufacturer fixes it !
Should I find anything, I’ll be back.
Thanks again.

Funny enough, this is the same I came to. If i put the mic all the way up to my mouth, the sound comes through fine. It just seems like the card has no juice to it at all....(no pun intended)

Great... Seems this is the only way for now...CMEDIA SUCKS DONKEY BALLS.
edit: Ive had the same type of card in another computer, but the comp came with preinstalled windows, strangely it worked fine there...I hope I can find out what the difference was, if I do, ill be back

I had a similar problem with a Cmedia sound card (HDA digital X mystique 7.1 gold). I found a couple of (alternative) workarounds:
(1) Switch to headphone or 2-channel analog output on the Xear 3D control pannel.
(2) In Skype, select tools/options/sound devices and uncheck "Let Skype adjust my sound device settings".

similar problem solved
I had no problems with sound at all until i reinstalled windows the otherday, i used exactly the same drivers as b4 but this time the mic wouldnt register unless i shouted up close into it, the sound from the speakers was ok if i did a sound test until i put mic boost on, this made all the sound distort. all i did to fix the problem was run the speaker test from the audio video tuning wizard on msn messenger continuosly with mic boost enabled this gave me the horrid distortion. played around with the audio settings for the mic and found that the distortion and the problem with the mic not picking up my voice where simply caused by mic being enabled in the settings for playback. (in sounds and audio devices) so if anyone else still has a similar prob try muting mic in the settings for playback and enabling it in settings for recording and select mic boost if its still quiet. all sound is now crystal and the mics working great...

Ive muted microphone playback from sound settings and selected the microphone under recording, mic boost is on - and the sound that comes through is fine, as long as i deepthroat the microphone. My solution was to buy an USB headset so it no longer uses the cmedia driver =/ Sucks it had to come to that....

solution ac'97 quiet microphone
ive been battling with the ac'97 quiet mic problem for a while now.
finally i have a solution...i wrote another stinky e-mail to asrock and they replied with a real solution to my suprise..they mailed me a file to replace a file in there released driver.
the file is : C-Media_patch.zip
it includes : cmuda.sys
and some batch files for 98/me/2k/xp
the instructions were as follows :
"Dear Sir,
Please follow the instructions below to install the patch attached.
1. Under Windows Desktop, Please refer below path find the "cmuda.sys" file.
"My Computer"-->"Local Disk C:"-- >"Program Files"-->"C-Media 3D Audio"-->"Driver"-->"Win_XP"
2. Please unzip attachment "cmuda.sys" file to above directory for replace the original "cmuda.sys".
3. Restart the system.
4. Before test, please also make sure the "Mic Boost" is enabled in Cmedia 3D Audio configuration
Thanks for the email.
Yours truly,
ASRock"
right,,,so i did this,,,no difference :S
but...if you follow those instructions,go to the windows device manager and try and update the driver manually, select the updated driver from the folder as above (eg. "My Computer"-->"Local Disk C:"-- >"Program Files"-->"C-Media 3D Audio"-->"Driver"-->"Win_XP") or wotever yours is
and tell windows to use this driver,re-boot.
for me this worked great and the mic was boosted way more than the 20db boost managed.
now to re-train my voice recognition software :S
anyways ive seen many ppl online with this problem and thought id post this solution (fed up of ppl saying try the 20db boost "its not that!").
i cant be arsed going to every forum i was trying on to find a solution and reporting this, so plz spread the word that asrock supply a patch to resolve this issue if you ask nicely

i fixed the mic problem on mine...
it took me a while to figure out but ok heres what i did
step 1 im not sure if it matters but i updated the driver with media rack
mic still was very quiet so i started fuckin with the settings
sound ajuster>options>properties
make sure mic is checked and same wit line in
raise mic volume however if you also have a line in bar keep mic muted, this prevents it from being played back in the speakers
also click on advanced n set the db gain to checked
still mic was 2 low so i went back into the options
now what i did was higlighted recording instead of playback and there was nothing interesting however when i clicked ok a new audio ajuster came up where line in and mic were set very low so i raised them and voila, it worked... why cmedia would have 2 seperate presets for the mic n 2 for line in is beyond me but whatever
hope this solution works for who ever cant get their mic volume increased
take care
