Does anyone know how to get rid of A disk read error. I used FDisk with the Win 98 and it got rid of the disk read error. I then, installed a new HD (western dig 160 g) and used the same format, which was to FDisk with Win 98, load Win XP Pro (only to partition with NTFS) and it did not work. After Windos loaded files, and shut down to restart so it could finish loading files, I again got disk read error, press ctl alt del again. I can get the system to boot from another HD with Win 2000 and use the WD as a slave, but when I take Win 2000 off becasue I only want Win XP, and I set Win XP as master, it will not work. I have tried fixboot and that did not fix the problem. So I turned comp off and connected HD with Win 2000 back up so I could get back into Windows, but now Win 2000 would not come up, comp said files (NTLDR) was missing and gave me the same error, Disk Read Error, Press Ctl, Atl, Del to restart. So I reloaded Win 2000 and the problem went away. The same is not true for Win Xp, I have loaded this software several times and still get Disk Read Error. The only way Win Xp will work is if I have it slaved to the HD with Win 2000 as master. Could this be a software problem, could files be missing or corruped, could my CD be bad? I need hlep, please.
