Porblem installing burner, already tried the basics...

Ok. I got a new NEC ND-3520a burner from newegg. When I placed the burner in my computer and started up windows it started to detect the new hardware. Then an error came up saying it couldn't start up the hardware. I go to the device manager and the burner isn't even listed in the "cd/rom drive" section. I looked for new firmware for the burner and found some but since my computer wouldn't even recognize the burner I couldn't flash the burner with the firmware.

I then read that it may be a problem with the ATA cables. So I switched the cables and only hooked up my burner and left my DVD ROM drive unplugged. I started up windows and it detected the burner and it installed everything and it worked fine. So this made me think it was the ATA cables.

I went and bought a new pair of ATA cables, hooked up both drives and it didn't recognize my burner again. It only recognized the DVD-ROM drive. So the problem is, I can't seem to have both my burner and my dvd-rom drive hooked up. This doesn't make sense to me because I had a CD-R burner in the exact same place as my dvd burner and it worked fine.

So anybody have any idea why my computer won't recognize both drives? My motherboard has up to date drivers. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like the jumpers on the rear of the drive(s) are not set correctly.

Set the on one the END of the cable to MASTER, the other one to SLAVE.

Or BOTH to CS (cable select)

Would I change that in the BIOS or is there a physical switch on the back of the drive to do that?
