Graphics Problem

Before I start explaining my problem I'll just let everyone know I know little about hardware. My problem started with a recent thunderstorm. I tried to reboot the day after and found my modem didn't work and my display seemed to be very blueish. I replaced the modem and thought my monitor had been fried. I replaced the monitor but found that I had the same problem with a different monitor. It boots up to the initial splash screen with the same blueish color, so I don't think there is a problem with any drivers. It seems that in the RGB the blue is ok, the green is almost yellow and there doesn't seem to be any red at all. I have an HP Pavillion with windows XP installed the graphics chip passed all the available PC Doctor tests, although I couldn't find a test to check colors.
It is an Intel 82845G on board with 64 meg. Is there a way to fix the problem? Can I buy a graphics card and use it instead of the built in graphics? Like I said I am a hardware moron so if anyone has any ideas at all I would greatly appreciate their help and also if a new card will work are there any suggestions? I play a lot of video games but I don't want to go too nuts on price. I would like something to pretty much just replicate what I already have.

Thanks in advance

First, yes you can put in a new graphics card, it simply fits into the PCI slot, if you look in your comp you will see anything form three to six slots and there will be near the back, you simply take out one of the backplates slot the card in install the drivers, and away you go.
The good news is graphics are getting cheaper, just make sure it is the correct one for your Motherboard etc. I am sure you will find that you will get a better one for a reasonble amount of money, perhaps it would be wise to go to a store rather than buy one on the net then you can tell them what your setup is and they will recommend you a good board.

Second, do you know anyone with a compitable board?? just so you are not wasting money on the problem, you can slot it in and see if it solves the problem.
Regards

before i would buy another video card i would make sure i needed one. if you go to the start menu, right click my computer, then select properties click the hardware tab then device manager, first see if there are any yallow or red ! or ? next to anything. if there is it has either a hardware problem or the driver has problems. even if you dont have a ! or ? next to display adapters, click the + next to it, right click the display adapter and select uninstall. now rebooot the device will auotmatically reinstall and quite possibly fix the situation.

At the same time you buy a new graphics card (and I think you need one); get a surge protector as well which also supports phone line.
