Maxtor HD

I have a maxtor 40gb hardisk. Someday days before, when I switch on my pc, the bios can detected it, but when it going to load the windows from the hardisk. It shows a message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK". Then I boot on the pc from the windows xp disc, it told me the hardisk can't be recognized.

Anyone can tell me whats happen, can i still use or rescue it. Thanks so much.

It sounds like you lost the boot sector on your drive. Do you have a spare HD to install windows on? If you do you can possibly back up your data from that drive. How ever if you lost the boot sector info you could also have other data loss on the drive. If worse comes to worse and you cannot retrive the data you should be able to format or write 0's to the drive and reinstall windows. If when you use the windows cd to format the drive and it will not see the drive to format it you can use Max Blast to do this.
