Safely Remove Hardware

Hi Folks,

I need a bit of advice.

The "safely remove hardware" icon has disappeared from my system tray on my laptop.

I have some problems transferring mp3 files from laptop to new Echostar satellite receiver with built in hard drive. This receiver (pvr5020) is designed to accept mp3's and I have used the latest beta software from Echostar to effectively make it recognised as an external hard drive when connected by usb cable.

I have sucessfully transferred over 993 mp3's. No more will transfer over. It is not a question of disk space as the pvr5020 has a 250GB capacity.

Echostar support have informed me that in order to ensure successful transfer I must disconnect safely before unplugging the usb cable. I cannot however find the "safely remove hardware" icon which is normally located in the systen tray (bottom right of screen).

Can anyone please advise me on how to get this back in the system tray or are there any other ways to access this utility?

Any advise will be much appreciated.

Best Regards.

Satfanni.

Download this utility:
http://www.safelyremove.com/safelyremovesetup.exe
or
http://www.safelyremove.com/safelyremovesetup.zip

You can use this utility instead of "Safely Remove Hardware" icon.
Also it supports system-wide hotkeys(combination of keys).
Very handy utility

Hope this will help.

Nope. And I used to just unplug my stick from the USB before I even knew there was a "safely remove hardware" item...

There doesn't seem to be a problem with Win XP. But with Win 2000 if u remove the device without doing "Safely remove hardware" u may run into some problems. For eg. if u transfer a file to a USB flash drive frm ur hard disk and just plug it out, the file disappears from the flash drive It happened with me a couple of times
