Optical Wired Microsoft Mouse Problem

I have Windows XP Home Edition SP2

My problem is that every few seconds or minutes my mouse stops working for a few seconds, the light on my optical mouse shuts off and turns back on in a few seconds, and starts working.

Usually when it stops working it beeps but not always so i dont know what the problem is.

Uninstall the drivers for the MS mouse and see how it runs using generic XP drivers.

If that works OK, download and install the latest drivers and try again.
