cyber shot U questions

i just bought one of those sony cyber shot U camera's (the what's it called number is DSC-U20).
they're the really small ones.

in the instruction manual it says that the camera can be powered by a pc when it is connected to it via a USB cable. when i hook it up to my pc, the only thing displayed on the LCD screen is 'USB MODE: NORMAL'. seeing as the batteries take 13 hours to charge, how can i actually take photos and movies while the camera is connected to the pc? is that even possible?

one more question.

how do i erase the data of the memory stick inside the camera using my computer? is that even possible too?

for those who know what i'm talking about please help.

Hi Fred. I believe the usb is only for downloading the pictures or movie. I do not think that model is equipped for webcam use. You could put a couple of ordinary batteries in it to get you going. I'm not familiar with Sony's software but you should be able to "move" or "copy" the pics to your computer. "move" should empty the media card and you can start shooting again. You can erase any or all pics via camera controls as well. One very important thing is to read the instructions carefully on disconnecting the camera after you download the pics. An improper disconnect can damage the media card. Sometimes you can "format" the card via camera controls to restore it.
