I don't know what the problem is..
I have recently been having trouble with my computer. We have installed a ASUS P4P800-X motherboard into it and put in the SATA harddrive etc. and everything boots up fine but nothing shows up on the monitor. We have no idea why this is and we have tried various different graphics cards, both AGP and PCI and none of them display anything on the monitor. I know the monitor works because I tried it on my other computer and it worked fine. Anybody got any ideas???

did you set the default graphics thing in the BIOS?
you can go into your bios and change where you want to have your graphics card display device installed.
go into BIOS and change it to what it's supposed to be and get back to me.

When it starts we hear a click which comes from the harddrive and it sounds as if it boots up. I think we only hear the fan. We think maybe the CPU might have been put in the wrong way..??

It's virtuallly impossible to put a CPU in the wrong way around. Not without realising, anyway... Maybe it's a graphics card problem?

Nope, not the graphics card, we've tried about 3 different cards both PCI and AGP. I took the heatsinker + fan off the top of the CPU to see that it WAS put in the wrong way round. Even after correcting it STILL nothing comes up on the monitor. We are going to send it off to some experts to see if the CPU has been blown up or damaged in some way and if it has we will buy a new one. Thanks for all the help, I'll keep you posted

Have you tried changing jumper settings on your motherboard to reset your bios settings?
If not try unplugging your computer, then take out the CMOS battery.
Wait 5 to 10 minutes.
Put the battery back in. Plug in the computer and start the computer.

I think my dad tried doing the jumpers thing and it didn't work. I'm not sure about the battery bit though... we will see what the problem is when we send it off.
Thanks for your help anyway.

Right, it's back from the so-called 'expert' and he couldn't fix it even after trying a different processor. We have now found out that the heatsink + fan is the problem but we have no idea why. When it's put on the CPU it works fine but once the little metal clips are put on both sides it suddenly stops working and nothing shows on the monitor. We know that without that fan on top, the CPU will almost certainly overheat and blow and I know this from touching the CPU after just 1 minute of the fan not being on top (it was burning hot). At the moment I am writing this post from the computer in-question. We have attached the heatsink and fan with cable ties (lol) and tightened them and it's working, even though I can feel the heat inside the PC rising slowly. Also, sometimes when I try to turn the computer on (after about 10 minutes of it being off) nothing shows on the monitor, sometimes just a black screen if I'm lucky and sometimes it doesn't seem to respond at all! We understand that with the fan held on by cable ties it will not last very long so we need an answer as quick as possible. Thanks alot.

Have you looked inside the case for a dropped screw or something? It could be shorting out your system. Also, is it possible the heatsink fan you are using isn't the correct fan?
Another possibility is that your power supply isn't supplying enough power. Might want to get a higher wattage power supply. Something in the 350W range or higher.

We thought a dropped screw might of done something but there's not any loose in the case, we also thought there might be a crack in the motherboard so it's cutting the tracks but no. We have tried 2 fans, 1 Akasa and one Quietsafe or something. We tried to get the PSU exchanged but couldn't. I put the MB disk in and installed the Intel chipset update and flashed the BIOS (I have no idea what that means) and it SEEMS to be working alright.
EDIT: The fan I am using at the moment is the one that was originally in the PC before all the problems started so I'm confident it works.
ANOTHER EDIT: I think the PSU I have at the moment is 400W or something. I can't remember but I'm sure it's at least 350W.

So are we. It's really weird. It's been looked at by 5 different people, all of whom know alot about computers and each of them don't know what the problem is.

I've got a CPU monitor that came on the MB CD and it says the CPU is about 60ºC, is that too high? It ranges between about 55ºC and about 65ºC but it alerts me when it gets too hot (72ºC).
