HP Deskjet 990cxi driver issue with xp?

Help.. I've been experiencing problems with my HP 990cxi printer of late so decided to remove the original driver & download the latest from HP website. The program downloaded Ok but when run an error message appears " C:Windowszsystem32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS & Microsoft Windows applications"!! I tried reloading using the original CD & got the same message.

Any ideas how to resolve? I'm running windows XP pro

Regards, Mike
