Configuring BT1800HG wireless router modem

I have just bought a BT 1800 HG wireless access point and it does not like the fact that I get broadband from an ISP other than BT broadband, does anyone know if there is a way to configure this bit of kit to work with settings for an alternative ISP? Thanks.

I am in the same boat. Take heart see this forum where somebody says it can be done.

If you get a positive answer anywhere please post it here so I can find out too - I will do the same

For anybody interested this is how I did it

Connected BT1800HG router with network cable supplied from network port on PC to network port 1 on the router.

Connected Router to phone socket using telephone cable supplied and existing filter (probably could have used one of the ones supplied but i didn't)

opened internet explorer went to tools-internet options-connections and changed it to Never dial connection

then in the address bar I typed in gateway.2wire.net

this brought up the 2wire menu.

On the left hand side of the screen was a button that said "setup wizard" (or something similar) I clicked on that and it asked me for an activation code, I used 522P-22P4-A222-22AT-F24N which is correct for PPOA (UK standard)

Then it asked for my user name and password which I entered and that was it the main computer could then access the internet ( I went to control panel - network connections and right clicked on my old tiscali account and made it not the default account)

The laptop I wanted to connect had a no name USB wireless adapter. I installed the drivers off the CD. plugged in the USB adaptor. Started the config software that had been installed found the option to set WEP security and input the required code - This is found on the bottom of the router. The number above the the bar code is the serial number and the number below the bar code is the WEP code. (There were 2 options for inputting the WEP code Hexadecimal and Ascii -- I used Hexadecimal)

Network was automatically recognised.

Its as simple as that.

Hope all that rambling made sense

melismobile was having trouble connecting to onetel on another forum using this router - heres how he finally cracked it

"Success at last For anyone else stuggling more information to add to Spanna's (if you can post onto other sites spanna that would be cool)

I'm using Onetel to connect, these are the settings you need
5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P for the key code this is a manual set up key code

Go to Advanced set up
vpi 0
vci 38 (was 35 on mine)
pppoa choose that

I got these codes from Onetel tech support, I needed to specifically ask for them

Then there is a drop doen meni near that area, I default one didn't work for me but I think I used the top one (sorry can't find it again now)

Not set up my wireless yet but that should be easy enough I hope !"

Hi everyone, I too have one of these beasts and am trying to replace a working BT1200 box that is connected to ADSL4LESS (my ISP). When I switched away from BT I simply had to put in my new username and password and the BT1200 worked (after the line was activated by ADSL4LESS).

When I connect the BT1800HG the orange light flashes continually and it claims it cannot connect and cannot find a DSL signal.

I have tried all the things mentioned above - but I did initially try to install via the supplied CD - could that have set anything that restricted it to BT Broadband? Bought it on eBay so could have been connected to BT before. Could it be that I need a different CODE for the setup wizard?

Any help gratefully received.
