Red face GeForce FX5500 video card problems

Sorry i'm a complete novice to computers in general and this forum.

Ive just upgraded from a Nvidia GF Ti4200 128MB video graphics card to a Geforce FX5500 256Mb and have had nothing but problems with my fav game, I know its sad its Medal of Honor Allied Assualt. The game screen is initally good up till the EA games logo then corrupt. No settings changes do anything to the game. Sometimes it boots up other times its just a black screen.

I have deleted the old drivers before i placed the new card in computer but thats the extent of my knowledge, sorry.

Any help will be gratefully received,

Thanks

You are sure the card is installed successfully and not reverting back to what the computer woudl call a "stock" card which only lets you have 16 bit color and 800x600 resolution??

Unhappy

hi, i have jus got a 5500 aswell my problem is since i installed it, its shut off the agp texture acceleration in dx. so some of my games are doing the same thing or not even loading up. at least i'm thinking this is the cause? any idea's out there??? i'm starting to lose my mind!!! maybe were both having the same problem. i'm a bit of a novice when it comes to graphics cards to i'm afraid. i can just get by but i have no idea how to re-enable agp? its completely gone.

I'm presuming that you've both tried updating the driver from the card maker rather than either Nvida or the Windows update site??
If you attempt an update from either of these I've found that Windows update actually rolls back the driver to a basic 800x400 16 colour !! The Nvidia driver, although says it's installed ok, still falls over when trying to run high deff games (they do say that the drivers may not work, in their defence).

(yes I also upgraded to a 5500 256mb AGP 8x card from a Geforce 440mx 128).
