Old and new CD-RW both act DEAD

About 2 weeks ago I noticed, when I was about to burn an audio
CD, that my CD drive was dead. I then rebooted, and saw that the drive
light flashes normally during boot-up, but still dead. It will not detect any CD inserted. I then checked Device Manager, the yellow Question mark
in the drives status was " Windows successfully loaded the device driver
for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

Thinking it was just a drive failure, I went out and bought a new CD drive,
Installed it. Upon booting, the little balloon pops up and says it
detected the new drive, GREAT, I thought. But it also is Inoperative.
Device Manager Status for drive says the same as before.

Anyone have a solution??

Took a look, no go, googled again and found this
http://www.thudfactor.com/textpatter...problem-solved
I wonder if I just overlooked it over the past weekend,
or if google didn't return it,
Link there to MS KB article

It's Weird tho- I haven't uninstalled any burning software, nor installed
any third party burning software. And MS doesn't
mention ERROR 41 on that KB article.

BUT IT WORKED, for reading CD's anyway.
will work on getting burning working later.

Reinstalling the drivers, for the drive, have everything
back to normal. Can burn CD's, audio and data, again.
I remember, I did try that before finding that KB article,
but it would just abort, with a message that didn't make any
sense, to me, anyway. Problem, ERROR 41 is solved!
Now, to see if I can return the CD-RW drive I don't need.
