How do I switch from LPT to USB/printer

Today I tried to install a wireless print server (Linksys) so that I could send documents from my notebook to my wireless router and on to the print server and finally to my Canon Multipass F30 printer. What a nightmare. After quite some time, I was able to get the print server and the wireless router to 'see' each other, but couldn't print. I tried creating a new 'port type' within the printer/fax settings dialog, with no luck. Can anyone help me get the Canon to function over USB??
WinXP Home OS.

Have you tried viewing the network in My Network Places finding the printer right clicking on it and saying connect?
