Very Dark Screen on HP Laptop

Hi -- If someone could give me some advice or information, i would really appreciate it.

My HP laptop's screen began flickering a while back, but recently the screen went completely dark. Well, not completely -- I can see what's on the screen, but it's really really dark. This happened once before, and then a couple days later it was bright again. This time though, the problem has lasted almost a week. It's not the contrast/brightness, as i have tried changing both of those.

Does anyone know if this problem is expensive to fix? Or what i can do to solve this? I'm getting ready to throw my laptop out my window!!!

its the power inverter for your display. depending on the size, model, brand and such id guess anywhere from 50-100 for the part. if you cant do the labor yourself(which requires some disassembly of the laptop screen and case) you can expect to pay another 50-100 for shop time. its a rather simple problem though. the inverter itself is located at the bottom of your display. removing the shell and then unpluging the part, you can find ID numbers and see if you can find a fair price on the net.
