Question Errors - BAD BLOCKS

I have a system operating with XP and I keep getting shut down errors in Window Explorer, Internet Explorer and Windows Management console. I checked the errors and it says I have bad blocks in the disk. Sometimes I get no errors in one area and sometimes I get in all the areas. I can't get in to delete programs or even try to find the problem. When I try I'm told there is a problem and the window shuts down. If anyone can help please do, I don't want spend money on a simple repair.
