Laptop battery won't charge.

I have a PCG-K13 Sony Vaio Laptop that is just over a year old and rarely used. My original power adapter died on me so I bought a replacement universal adapter. It's a Targus model # ac70u adapter. It works fine for powering the computer up but the battery on my laptop does not charge. The little icon comes up on the bottom right corner saying it is charging but it never goes above 0%. Once I disconnect the power cord the computer shuts off so I know the battery is not getting any juice. Would this most likely be caused because it's not the origonal power cord or maybe just a dead battery? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

My first action would be to take the battery out, run the laptop off the mains, then put your battery back in while still running off the mains. Leave it running for a while, then turn the laptop off. Leave the power on and see if it starts charging the battery.
If the battery has been allowed to completely drain, it can take a bit of messing about to get it to charge again.
The other thing worth trying is the battery calibration feature that should be built in to your bios. Tap Esc repeatedly when you turn your laptop on. Wait for the bios screen to load and take a look through your bios for the power calibration feature.
NOTE: Do not change anything else in your bios.
