Onboard Ethernet adapter not recognized

Hello, I have the SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter and I am trying to hook up my cable modem to it, but when I run the cable modem setup it tells me to check the wires to see if they are all plugged in and they are. Device manager says this device is working properly and I have the newest driver for it. Can anyone please give me any help, or if this is not the right place to be asking, direct me to the right place? Thank you
