Graphics problem while gaming~
Hi guys,i have face a problem whenever i wanted to play a 3d Game : Counterstrike, raganok online or rose online.I believe nvidia geforce4 ti 4600 graphics card should be enough to play these games.
When i played counterstrike,it will freeze for a long time,n then it move 1 step and it will freeze again.Whenever i come to the login page for these games,it will become very jerky. And leaving no chance to type even a word in a game.
I dont have any problems when i play 2D games, play a movie on my comps.
I tried updating drivers for my video card, removing the older driver version beforce installing the new video card driver. It still does not help.
So i hope if there is any experts out here that can provide me with some solutions for the above question?thks.
FYI: Currently using : pentium 4, 2.53GHZ
512Mb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600
Santa Cruz Sound card.

The ti4600 should run those games.
Do you have dialup of broadband?
You may try turning the graffics down in the game see if that helps. It almost sounds like a heat issue .

If it was a heat issue, the card might actually turn itself off so that it wouldn't damage itself any further, as a failsafe. To be honest, it would be better to buy a new graphics card as they are not that expensive and would provide you with great graphics - and might even solve your problem. Either that or stick some better RAM in the machine to help process lots of things that happen at once. For a stick of PC3200 512Mb CL=3, £30 is the going price these days. ( http://www.xe.com if you want $$$)
In this case, lots of jerky play sounds definately like a connection problem. You should have decent speeds when playing modern games online which need Broadband as standard. Try turning off as many programs as possible that use the connection to the internet, like filesharing programs, instant messenger services, downloading files from Internet Browsers etc to give exclusive access to your internet connection to the game. If you're on a LAN or network, other people on the same network may slow the Internet speed down.
What ISP/Provider do you use?

Hmmm,im using cable modem speed of 2000kbps(forgotten that i have switch isp)
i tried to play 3D games the 1st thing when i on my comp, and found it running smoothly till 3-5mins later, the game start to jerk and lag.
I guess its really the heat causing the problem. And the vga fan isnt moving neither. So i will try to replace a vga fan and test it out,if not i think its time to replace a new Vga.
Sorry and thks for the different opinions u guys gave me.Im not very knowledgeable in this field,so asking some noob questions.

ROFL! If your card's HSF isn't working, it would be a problem replacing the 60mm or 50mm fan they use. No wonder your card is stuttering because it's always getting too hot! Open the machine up (earth yourself first!) and check the card to see if the graphics card fan is plugged into the graphics card, although if you have been using it for a while then the fan may have just died from old age.
If you are really confident and/or knowledgeable you could take the fan off of the chip that it is cooling and replace it, otherwise it would be quite difficult to replace the fan without rendering your graphics card into trash. Either way, the card isn't worth using unless you solve this broken fan problem.
Seriously, why not break out the piggy bank and grab a newer card? An ATI 9600-type card is quite good for an upgrade from a Ti 4600, especially a 9600pro or 9600xt. If you can stretch further, the 9800 will breeze through games

It's been awhile since I've been here, so sorry for the late post.
Southern is right about the fan, and probably about the upgrade, too. I disagree about the choice of video cards for upgrtade, though. I just bought an XFX geForce 6600GT for $160. It whips the ATi 9800 Pro in most benchmarks, and overclocks like a beast (not that you're into overclocking, but just incase ). If you think that your video card is worth another 25-30 bucks, you could buy an Arctic Cooling heatsink/fan so that you don't have to worry about getting the wrong size/shape fan for your stock heatsink. If you just want to find another fan, make sure you disassemle the card to see exactly what kind of fan you'd need to find. BTW, if it's a square framed fan, the measurements are taken from the outside edges of the frame, not the fan blades. So if you pull it, measure the frame, and it should be a 40mm, 50mm, or 60mm fan (there are 55mm, and 65mm, but they are very uncommon).

Curtybob - I agree with you about the XFX 6600GT, it's money well spent for graphical performance, at least judging by my brother's rig that has it in, but I suggested the 9600 or 9800 because not everyone has silly money to chuck around for graphics card so I thought the ATI ones would be okay for an upgrade on a tighter budget.

Yeah, you are right. Here in the states, the 9600's worth having are about 80-90 bucks, and the 9800 Pro's (if you are going for 9800's, get at least a Pro) have a pretty good price spread, so search around for those... saw one for $114 and the next I saw was $190.

However, playing those 3Ds games is still a problem.Wondering what is wrong with the VGA card.
If i can play a movie,n 2D games...y cant a 3D?
Im afraid if i change a new vga card...and the problem still persists..im gonna cry like mad.
