DVD burner problem

I have an I/O Magic usb1008ui external burner. Its 8x on dvd burn. It worked fine for a while and then the movies would burn half way through, and stop playing. I fooled with it, updated firmware and thought I fixed it. Now the movie gets to a certain point and skips through the rest of it. I'm going crazy trying to get it to work. Anyone ever experienced this?
