Computer Wont Recognize my Sound Device!!

I was Wondering if Anyone could please help me?

I had this computer running on windows Xp for a while now. I chose to reformat my computer to get a fresh start on things(still running Windows XP)
I went to download the necsasary drivers for my sound card. But when i went on device manager under sound and video there was no sound card?

Can anyone tell me how to get my PC to recognize my sound device?

Please and thankyou

When you formatted your HD the computer boots off the disc ,it says press any key to boot from cd. then a bunch of files load and it restarts the computer to install those files. At first after rebooting it says the same thing . press any key to boot form CD. Did you press enter or some other key? If you did it reinstalled the same files over top of the first ones and you corrupted one of the BUS Driver files. The best thing to do is to format the HD again and when you first get the command Press any key to boot from CD, only do it once. After it reboots to load the initial group of files you will see the same command , Press any key to boot from CD. Don't press any keys. Leave the computer alone and it wil go back to where it was before and continue to load the rest of the XP Operating system

Some of the files with the BUS extension are used by XP to recognize and operate the sound card and the sound files associated with it. The different file extensions tell XP which program to use to open those files. I think some of your basic driver files were corrupted during the installation process. After you reformat, and XP is finished installing make sure you install the mother board driver files first, then the video card.etc.
