Black screen... New monitor?

I recently purchased a new 19" LCD monitor. After hooking up the monitor, I started having issues with a temporary black screen. Usually, the screen goes black when I have my web browser open and/ or I click/ move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard. (It has blinked 3 times since I've started writing this message... 4 times). Any idea what is causing this? I never had this problem with my old 14" or 17" CRT monitors. Could I have a dud monitor? Could my video card not be powerful enough to handle the display? I have an ATI Radeon 7200, 32 MB DDR.
