Help cd/dvd problem

Help,
My CD/DVD door won't open and the light blinks continually as though it is scanning a disk, when I go into "my computer" on Windows mellinium the CD/DVD is missing. However if I open the door to the CD/DVD before the windows mellinium opens, in other words if I jump to it right after the power is turned on before windows has a chance to load it works fine and everything is in order. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? I ran a virus scan but did not detect any viruses, only virus I have ever had was a worm and that was several years ago and easily fixed. This is a new problem. I did just do a windows update, however, it was a few days after that this problem occured. Any ideas would be welcome.

I would try reinstalling the driver again. You should be able to find one at the manufacturer's website.

Check and see if the ribbon cable going to the drive is backwards. Also, try the driver/firmware updates for the it.
