Exclamation Clueless...

Hey, how y'all doin?

My problem is as follows:

My cpu was overheating so i changed the fan cos i was using the (big mistake) one that came with the cpu...
Anyway, i changed it and done all the usual stuff with the conducting gel etc. When i turned on my computer, it seemed fine, nothing overheating or anything, all good. After a while, it restarted for no reason. Fair enough? Well, it wont start up again. Ive tried boting from every disc i can find. Reinstalling xp doesnt always work with it, as i get errors. Repairing it aint an option as I also get errors. Sometimes the disc wont even get that far, it says error 168 has occured while trying to read the cd or something. Anyway, ive been able to fix it a few times, but the same thing keeps on happening. Ive also tried formatting numerous times.

I was kinda thinkin it could be my hard drive going on me? Waht do you think, can you help?

Cheers for your time.

[setup:::
Athlon XP 3000+
768 ram
160gb HD
Gigabyte 7N400 Pro 2 m/b
nvidia 5900 xt graphics card]

Ive never had any problems with this hardware setup before.
