Home Networking Help Needed

Dear Forum,

Following is my problem:

I am new to networking and trying to connect my Desktop & Laptop at home to a network. I tried few options using a Wireless Router but not successful. I also don't have any internet modem at home.

I have tried with same Work group on both the computers and created a network. But I cannot view the each machine in other machine.

Laptop is having wireless networking feature but not the desktop.

Can any of you help me by providing few guidelines.

Based on the fact the you already have a router, the cheapest and easiest way to solve your problem would be to pick up 2 network cards and a crossover cable. Install a card in each pc and hook the crossover cable to each pc through the new cards. That way you are indepentently connected to the internet and connected to each other. That's what I did with my setup and it works fine.
