Mouse and Keyboard are dead, please read

This is SERIOUSLY irritating me...

Yesterday night, I tried to install a logitech USB mouse. I had no luck making it work, since when i installed the stuff for it and restarted my comp, it didn't work at all- no light, nothing. I tried to use my other mouse (a compaq wireless mouse), but no luck, so i used my keyboard to reinstall the stuff for that mouse and restarted, regaining control of the wireless one. I then uninstalled the useless logitech drivers to keep them from conflicting some how, but I think that maybe I also uninstalled the logitech keyboard drivers. Either way, the keyboard worked perfectly fine. I just recently had to restart my comp due to a windows update, and when my comp came back on, NOTHING worked. I tried the logitech mouse just to see if it by some chance would work, but no luck. I tried a microsoft keyboard that originally came with my hp computer, but still didn't work! I tried a bunch of different combinations of safemode, keyboards, and mouses, but no luck, and since no mouse worked, i couldn't log into the admin account in safe mode.

I also must state, since I've read other articles on this, that for some reason my hp computer won't let me simply stick a cd in the disc drive and run from the cd when starting the comp up. I tried putting in the blue OS disc from my mom's gateway, tried my norton 2k4 CD, tried the hp system discs... no luck...

What should I do now, aside from smashing it in with a sledge hammer?

by deleting the files in program files you may have delted the uninstall file which the comp needs to be able to properly remove the drivers from your system.. if they are still in your recycle bin, are you able to restore them and then remove them through the control panel??

cant really help otherwise, i'm just as confused as you as to why they dont work :S

no, I already tried that. no luck. I also tried to use the hard drive from my computer as the master on my mom's comp to see if that would some how let me fix it ( maybe the usb and ps2 ports on my comp are messed up? heck i dunno...), but it wouldn't load up, so eh, no good. I guess it could be some sort of new virus? Maybe I'll just have someone do a house call and see if they can find what's wrong. >_>

maybe you'll have to.

i ahve no idea how to help, usually if i have tried several things and still cant get help for anything, i would back up all my files and work, and then format the machine and start again from scratch, but then i just dont have the patience to deal with things like keyboards and mouses not working LOL, it gets too frustrating

hope you manage to sort somethign out though

Yeah, if i were using the gateway i gave to my mom, a format would be my quick (in whatever sense that word applies to an 11hr process D: ), clean, certain way to fix any problem. since it's a hp, it's a bit different and I can't just stick the drivers disc in and wipe everything... oh well. But still, thank you for responding ClaireyFairy!

anyone else out there have any ideas? <<
