Problems since new Graphics Card

Hi guys

I just upgraded my pc with a new graphics card from an ATI 300 to an ATI Powercolor X850 PRO.

Everything works fine, I can use my PC for work etc as per usual. The problem arises when i try to play games. (BTW i was playing these games fine with my old Graphics card). I have noticed that it only switches off when the game is trying to load.

Whilst the game is loading my PC SHUTS DOWN ALL ON ITS OWN. when i Say shut down i mean it completely switches off of its own accord. I can't even switch it on again using the power button. The only way i can switch it on again is by switching off from from the power supply and switching on again. The i can switch the PC on again via the normal route.

Any urgent help would be appreciated as i've just spent £200 on the graphics card (hope its not a waste).

Many TIA

I'm running:

P4 3.4GH processor (with Thermalright CPU cooler and 120 MM Fan)
Win XP Pro
ASUS P5AD2 Premium Mobo
1GB RAM
480 Watt Thermaltake PSU
7 Case fans (cooling isn't a problem)
X850 Pro (Current) (X300 previously)
4 X HDD's (2 X SATA 2 X IDE)

Hope that helps. BTW my sytem was running fine before i changed graphics cards.

Thanx again.

I'd have a look at ASUS site, they have their own forum, my suspicions lead me to the INF file for Intel, this deals with loading software, many drivers are nor recognised unless this file is updated, ASUS also have a utility for checking your board for faults.

I have the same mobo, power supply, and video card you do as
well as the same shutdown problem.

The problem is your power supply. The Thermaltake 480W is
not ATX 2.0 compliant. If you go to their website it is listed
as a ATX 1.3 power supply.

You need to get a 2.0 compliant supply. I have a PC Power and
Cooling 510 and no longer get the shutdown problem when I
launch my games. I've heard of others with success with the
Antec 480W.

These threads may help you as they helped me.

not sure if thats the manufacturer or not, but its the only writing i could find LMAO

its got loadsa multicoloured flashy lights etc inside the power supply, and i got loadsa lights up the side too, was thinking it was maybe crashing coz the power supply could not handle everything, so switched the lights up the side off..
