Angry Motherboard Issues

I have a self-made computer, pretty good specs, and I recently got a new hard drive. There were some problems I had, and my old hard drive got corrupted, and do I installed windows on my new drive. Then I restarted the computer and connected the old drive to see if I could detect it, turned it on, BIOS said a weird thing in place of my hard-drives, then I turned it off and on again, and I got nothing, nothing would respond. The computer would turn on, but I wouldnt get no response from the monitor. I checked cables and stuff, but still nothing. I even took the computer apart again, and put it back together, note that I was very careful for static shock throughout all of this, but still nothing. Im guessing it might be my motherboard that is dead, but I just want to know what other people's diagnosis might be. Thanks.

Take the hard drive out of the machine then with the computer dissconnected from the mains clear the CMOS. Then try to boot again to see if it worked.

Although you motherboard manual may say it only takes 5 seconds (or some such short time) to clear the CMOS but I would recommend leaving it for about half an hour.

Hi, If you are "Clearing" the CMOS by the jumper just a moment of moving the jumper to the 2-3 pin postion is enough. If you are removing the battery you would need to leave it out a couple of hours to be sure. The circuit is designed to hold your data until you can replace the battery and the time varies from MB design to another. Luck, Jim

They can be designed however they like, some still seem to take longer than documented to clear the CMOS, and thats for sure.
