Problem accessing second hard drive

I needed to reinstall windows, so I installed a second hard drive on my computer to transfer the files I wanted to keep to, and everything went fine. I moved all the files over, no problem. After I reinstalled windows on the original hard drive, I could no longer access my new hard drive. It says that it needs to be formatted, and if I do that, I will loose all that data I added the second hard drive to preserve in the first place. Does anyone know what the problem is or what I can do to keep my files? The size of the new hard drive is also being reported incorrectly if that helps provide any clues to the problem; its a 300GB HD and the size it says now is 128GB. Thanks, much appreciated

I'm a little fuzzy on what you did, but have you checked your bios settings and seen if it recognized and reported the parameters of both the drives correctly (and am assuming that one is set as slave and one as main/master)? (should be set to auto detect) If the slave drive is where you put all your files, and the master is where the os is .... should show up in my computer .....depending on partitions ....c: and d: or if you partitioned then c:d: and d:e: ....
