Problem installing scanner?

Last my week old scanner a Canon Lide 20 stopped working (error message suggested a broken cable). This was not the case and after some preliminary investigations I thought the scanner was defunct and bought a replacement (Canon Lide 60).

After uninstalling the old version and software I installed the new scanner software and all was going splendidly with the following messages being received:

‘Found New Hardware’
‘Your hardware is installed and ready to use’
I also got a message saying the device can perform faster but on my fairly old machine I do not have any ‘Hi-Speed USB ports.

Unfortunately to my dismay, when I tried to scan my first pictures I got the following message headed by Scan Gear CS:

‘Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed.

After closing this message a further message was displayed under the header ‘Canoscan Toolbox: ‘Unable to open TWAIN source. Please check connection. Then restart toolbox’.

I have removed the software and re-installed on a couple of occasions but to no avail. Also when I have looked in the ‘Device Manager’ the scanner is not there? Does anybody know what the problem might be? I suspect the problem maybe software related.

One other thing, when I installed my new scanner on 2 other computers everything was working correctly.

Advice, tips etc gratefully received!

Scanner

This might work, although i'm not sure.
1. Go into Device Manager
2. View > Devices By Connection
3. Expand the the devices until you find programs with the USB Icon
4. Uninstall all of these, and restart

This will clear any devices that have ever been used on your USB ports. You might also want to uninstall the software and drivers for your scanner prior to this.

Best of luck.
