WIndows cannot find my DVD/CD drive

My laptops TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A drive has been working fine until one day when it no longer played cd's, dvd's or cd-roms. I went into device manager and it said:

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

My computer is a relatively new Packard Bell laptop which uses Windows XP.

The troubleshooter said it cannot help me.

The device is enabled and i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.

Can anyone help??

Registry fix

I have the same machine and solved the problem by editing the registry.
You need to remove the upper and lower filters of your cd reg key.
1. Start > Run.
2. regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class in the Registry Editor dialog box and select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key, which appears as a folder.
4. Select File > Export
5. save the file to the Desktop in case you need to restore it
6. In the right panel of the Registry Editor, select the LowerFilters line, and then choose Edit > Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box.
7. Do the same for the UpperFilters line
8. Close the Registry Editor.
9. Restart Windows.

That should solve your problem.
I still have the problem that my cd software does not recognise the drive, which I am trying to find a solution for. I am using Sonic RecordNow, and have found plenty posts on the subject, but no real solutions as yet. If anyone has had the problem, help would be appreciated.

for those who have problem with reading dvd/cd rom

i had the problem of cannot open cd/dvd s after installing sonic my dvd.

use this soluton :

1 . uninstall sonic...and nero (after solving problem u can install your burning software again...)
2 open note pad paste this code to that :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CD Burning]
"CD Recorder Drive"="\\\\?\\Volume{36e19d01-48dd-11dc-9762-806d6172696f}\\"
"DriveIndex"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Current Media]
"TotalBytes"=hex:00,18,0b,2b,00,00,00,00
"FreeBytes"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
"Media Type"=dword:00000002
"UDF"=dword:00000000
"Disc Label"="my disk"
"Set"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives\Volume{36e19d01-48dd-11dc-9762-806d6172696f}]
"Drive Type"=dword:00000001
"CurrentCDWriteSpeed"=dword:ffffffff
"MaxCDWriteSpeed"=dword:00000018

3.SAVE as .reg file double click on it... and your dvd/cd s can be open in explorer.

(i have pioneer dvd writer this maybe not workes on ur system but this was my last way to solve the problem and worked nice for me.)

goodluck...
