I've tried and I've tried to get results from Installing and Uninstalling my Audio Drivers in Safe Mode and otherwise, but no matter what I do I don't get anything and MSI (Mutli-Star International) gives me nothing to work with.

"VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM)" is what I got from their "MSI Live Monitor" which is supposed to provide you with the "latest" driver updates. All it gives me is VIA Vinyl Audio Deck.EXE that doesn't even WORK.

I'm at the end of my rope here...can someone help?

Same problem this topic is about: NO Audio Device, NO Playback Device, though for some reason I have Sound Recording and Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth though when I click on Volume I get "Windows cannot Execute SndVol32.exe"

I'm thinking I'm missing more drivers than I expected but I don't know where Microsoft has full Audio Driver Packages in their updates/install packages...

check this

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

Well it's currently set to "Started/Automatic" before I even did anything. It hasn't even been disabled.

you need to check if audio is [Enabled] in the BIOS

as soon as comp boots press the <Del> key

Main Menu opens -

use down arrow key to select Integrated Peripherals - Press Enter key

AC97 Controller should be [Enabled]

if not use down arrow key to select

+ key to change

F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install audio driver again

Don't forget the Restore Point

AC97 Bios was enabled to begin with, onboard audio. This is the umpteenth time I've reinstalled this stupid driver and no matter what I get from the WinXP disc I have or even the updates from MSI it won't enable Audio Driver or Volume Settings or Playback.
