did you get the Graphic driver

also check Win Updates - Custom and see if any drivers listed for hardware

Win Updates had updates available for my monitor and graphics controller. I installed them both but still no improvements as far as sound is concerned.

I'm getting ready to do a full, destructive system restore but is there anything else I should try before I do?

if you can get your hands on a XP disc, same OS as you have installed, then you will be able to do a Repair Install, failing that, get all the original drivers from HP, and copy to a CD, so you have all the drivers to hand. Install in order - Chipset ( needs a Restart) then check Device manager to what is yellow flagged, Video is next - then audio

Okay, I wasn't able to get a hold of a XP disc (my resources are somewhat limited at the moment), so I went ahead and did a destructive system recovery. I had already had most of the files backed up from the previous restore so it turned out to just be a minor inconvenience.

Good news though, I finally got the onboard sound working again!!! I was unable to get the SB Audigy car to work though, but as long as there is sound I don't really care; it makes no difference to my mom weather or not the sound is high-def hehe.

Thank you once again for all your help and advice =]

I got the drivers from the site, and I extracted them to the Hard Disk but when I try to run the file named 'install' Nothing happens, the curser shows its hourglass then stops and.. well that's it :/ Any reason for that?

Oh, It was set to Auto in the Bios

Sigh...this is really getting on my nerves and driving me crazy.

I enabled the Audio Device in Device Manager, I even got a new PCI Creative Sound Blaster Sound Card installed, installed the drivers for the new card, disabled the on-board Audio device in BIOS, uninstalled any interfering drivers in safe mode that I'm aware of, reinstalled them again to be sure...

AND STILL after all this craziness I have "No Audio Device/No Audio Playback"

I have Recording (Sound Blaster Xi-Fi Extreme Audio) and Midi (Creative Soundfont Synthesizer volume controls).

check these out first

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

let me know what happens

Sound Playback Audio Tab says "No Playback Device" and is greyed out.

Windows Audio Service is set to "Automatic" and says it's "Started".

Also, though I'm not sure it's related, one of my services failed to start and got an error.

"Windows Driver Foundation - Usermode Driver Framework/Manages user-mode driver host processes" set to Manual, but won't start. Error 1053.

look at this from M$ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839174

one solution, go to Win Updates - check to see if NetFramework is listed to download, it may be listed under Custom.

if it is listed - install - then go back to Win Update and see if it is listed again, there is usally and update to the update, crazy I know but it happenes. I'm not sure what netFramework does, but I do know that Ati display drivers will not install without it

after installing try the to install sound card driver again

Help me bookworm, you're my only hope

Same old story...
I have a Dell Dimension 2350 with integrated Intel 82845 and SoundMAX audio (BelArc dump at end). At some unkown point in the last n years, sound gave out. Control Panel shows 'No Audio Devices' and sound does not work.

Dell provides a Hardware Diagnostic tool. Running the audio diagnostic will play two-channel sound through the speakers without fail -- it's not a cabling, speaker, or chip integrity issue.

I have also purchased and installed a PCI card and a USB sound card, with no luck.

I've looked through this whole thread and done the following today:
- checked BIOS, Integrated Audio was indeed disabled (how?), re-enabled setting.
- Set a restore point
- Downloaded and installed latest chipset driver via Dell site.
- Downloaded and installed Intel 82845 driver via Dell site
- Downloaded and installed ADI 198x integrated sound driver from Dell site
(note both graphics and audio drivers are epoch 2003 -- likely these are default)

Belarc dump follows. Advice is greatly appreciated.

check these first

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

http://support.euro.dell.com/support...atid=&i mpid=

ok, first install the chipset driver - then RESTART your comp, doesn't work unless you Restart before installing any other drivers

ADI 198x can be picky, try installing this way, use the If No setup file method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
