lol, no sound, all sections grey'd out

alrighty, i am 100% completely out of ideas and rather frustrated.

i have no sound, i cant do anything in the audio section as they are all grey'd out. all drivers are working and all drivers are up to date

well with the one exception [ Microsoft kernel acoustic echo canceler ] it claims its running a duplicate evan tho the other doesnt show up.

i have tried pretty much everything i and my computer tech can think of and i'm still up shit creek with out both paddles

oh btw ignore the sound card info as it was a test to see if it made any difference between onbored sound and sound card i got the same result.
i only want onbored sound for now

any advice wld be very much appreciated..

you need to check a few things

first Windows audio service

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

2nd it's High Definition audio and needs the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture or Microsoft UAA

check Device Manager / System Devices / should be listed - if not then get the Realtek audio with Microsoft UAA here from Gigabyte
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...t=xp#anchor_os

if that is right then you need to go into the BIOS to check if onboard audio set to [Auto]

as soon as comp boots press the <Del> key Main menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...-S3%20Main.JPG

use down arrow th select Integrated Peripherals - press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...Int%20Perp.JPG

Onboard Audio Function should be set to [Auto]

if [Disabled] use down arrow to select

+ key to change

F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

if needed install the Realtek audio driver from Gigabyte

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

alright, i noticed that there were two parts to the audio drivers so i had already installed both, now i've heard that u needed to install uaa first before installing the realtek. this was my process, uaa install, reboot realtek install reboot. nothing has changed well except for the fact that now my computer freezes when ever i try to open sound and audio.

the the onbord audio in bios is set to auto, the only time it was disabled was when i tryed the sound card. once again i reset that
i thank you for taking the time to write your reply, but it hasn't helped

oh btw i know my way around the computer quite well, i appreciate the screen shots for help but not needed
