Hi, Try removing the device from System Manager. On reboot Win should reinstall the driver. Usually it works after that. Luck, Jim

Swap SoundCard into different PCI port: Still have problem
Remove Software and Sound Drivers completely: Still have problem

Note: I cannot do a System Restore to the point where sound was

Have you tried updating the sound driver or the chipset driver. Creative released an update to this driver in May 2005, look here http://us.creative.com/support/downl...&Image4.y =10

Set a System Restore before installing just in case

Hope this helps

Folks I've done some analysis: I've noticed under Device Manager when I go to View and Select "Show Hidden Devices" that I'm missing the following:

Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer

Futhermore Under dxDiag it has the following information
WDM Streaming Mixer Devices:
Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer,0x00000000,0,0,,

SomeHow the Wave Audio Mixer Component is not being recognized by XP..

I know this because I've check this with my Laptop and all that information is there and the sound is working on the Laptop but not the Desktop

Any thoughts?

What make and model is your comp, if it is an Intel Chipset, this is what a chipset does

Information from Intel site

************************************************** **********
* 1. OVERVIEW
************************************************** **********
The Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility installs
Windows* INF files to the target system. These files outline
to the operating system how to configure the Intel(R) chipset
components in order to ensure that the following features
function properly:

- Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
- PCIe Support
- IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
- SATA Storage Support
- USB Support
- Identification of Intel(R) Chipset Components in
the Device Manager

Hope this helps

3 models UK, NL and USA/Canada where are you?

HP do not have the chipset driver, but Intel do it's the i850 chipset.

Set a System Restore before installing each driver just in case

The go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

install No:2 INF update utility then RESTART your comp

If still no sound reinstall the sound driver again

you have a Soundblaster PCI 128 - go back to Soundblaster and install the product No:3 as oldtimer suggested.

Hope this helps

The Chipset is correct, you have to install the file from INTEL firstThen RESTART your comp, went back to Creative, before you install the No;2 the Soundblaster driver you have to have No; 3 installed ( EAV4.0 HD ) Read the details.

As this is a PCI device, you need the Chipset driver to install the Win INF files, this tells Windows what is on you system.

Don't forget the System Restore Point.

Hope this helps
