Question Portable Storage drive

I have a iomagic store 1040a 4 GB portable drive that no longer responds when I plug it into the usb port. The computers initially recognize it but it does not show up as a drive (with a letter associated) the usb hub recognizes it but I cannot access it. After about 30 seconds it no longer shows on the hub either. It also has a blue led light that no longer illuminates. Any ideas?

Can you go into device manager and have a look-see.

See if there are any exclamation marks related to usb or the device. Have you always "safely removed" the device?

Yes I have gone into the device manager, like I said in my post, the computer initially recognizes the drive but then about 30 seconds later it goes away. I have also checked to see if there is a drive conflict, none.

The only thing I can suggest is to try the drive in another machine.

Thanks, I did that too, same result, I think there is either a driver problem with the drive itself or something physically wrong with it.

You could also check disk manager and make sure you have an available drive letter.....sometimes if you have multiple drives that might use your E, F, G drives then a USB attached storage will not show up.....understand what I mean?

Try changing your CD Rom to Z or something then plug it in and see if that works.....worse case it doesn't and just change the CD letter back to D or whatever you had it at.
